kleptocrat in a Hermes scarf

An article in Daily Telegraph by Jemima Khan (ex-wife of Pakistani cricketer turned politician, Imran Khan). A very good and in-depth analysis of pakistan's current political scene, especially the Musharraf-Benazir deal and her being imposed on Pakistan by US and west...

Why is Jemima speaking about Pakistani politics again, and why does she feel she has any authority to do so? She may have a point about Benazir Bhutto, but this is a woman who couldn't wait to leave Pakistan behind and has embraced the high life in London since dumping Imran Khan for Hugh Grant (and now having dumped him too).

She is known more for her colourful love and social life than anything else. I find it impossible to take her - who, let's not forget, PRETENDED to be a devout Muslim for almost ten years - seriously. How can Jemima criticize Bhutto for being a phoney and more interested in money and Western culture when she is blatantly the same?

I agree. I am no fan of Bhutto, but Jemima disgusts me with her hypocrisy and comes across as a bitchy and petulant child in this tit-for-tat hatchet job article.

I think whatever said is more important than who said it. Plus, having an insight and good writing/analysis skill is orthogonal to whom (and why) you are dating...

The point was not that I (Jemima) am better pakistani or muslim than Benazir. I think it was only a commentary on current political scene, and not her personal opinion about Benazir.

BTW as far as I remember, she was never in pakistani political scene, and claimed to be a leader (except for few appearances in fund collecting rallies for Imran's hospital, if you wanna call it "political")...

You could judge a person by his/her actions, but if it doesn't hurt (or affect) other people's life, I think that's ok (like western life or not, wanna make money or not). But, if you claim to be people's leader, then they will look toward you and then you will be judged by each and every (good and bad) action -- A penalty comes with privileges...

Anyways, I thought Jemima's article was an important one since it didn't come from a "politician", plus she had never said anything before so political...

p.s.: ooh yeah, Jemima's actions could have "hurt" some people too, so I guess you are right about judging her...:)

notice the difference between "kleptocrat", and SOME_BAD_NAMED_PERSON (who has dumped many guys, pretended to be a good muslim for many years, interested in western culture, happens to be very rich, and philanthropist etc etc...). Which one is more relevant to pakistani nation?
